Cloud storage adoption valued by IT professionals

The adoption of cloud storage across a broad spectrum of industries has been measured by a recent survey, with 26 per cent of respondents showing that they were planning on adopting virtualised archiving solutions sometime within the next 12 months.

As part of InformationWeek Reports State of Cloud Computing Survey, 240 information management professionals were asked questions about the direction their businesses would be taking in relation to online services.

While the percentage was down from the same survey last year, a further 27 per cent indicated that they already made use of this kind of technology in their workplace.

The researcher noted that this phenomenon denoted an increase in awareness across the board, with more firms coming to realise the value provided by cloud storage.

In particular they said that savvy managers were looking to the collaborative power of basic archiving solutions - with intelligent web portals allowing employees to access important business documents from any location with virtually no notice necessary.

As InformationWeek's editor and technology writer Charles Babcock put it: "The results of the new survey to me reflect an appetite for the more-advanced cloud services now available."
