Digital document management process begins at major Queensland hospital
A leading medical institution in the sunshine state us set to be one of the first in Australia to deploy a document management system that is compatible with the new e-health platform.
Mater Health Services - an organisation responsible for the management of a number of hospitals in Queensland - has made the strategic decision to roll out a number of digital platforms to share medical data and patient histories across its various facilities.
As part of its commitment to the incoming Personally Controlled Electronic Health Record (PCEHR) framework, the firm has received a government grant to assist in developing a suite of programs that will comply with the relevant technical specifications set out by the National E-Health Transition Authority.
The medical services provider has recently deployed a new patient administration services platform that enables two-way communication with existing Medicare databases.
Speaking on the decision to upgrade additional systems, Mater's chief information officer Mal Thatcher explained that the Mater Shared Electronic Health Record system will be entirely compatible with the national PCEHR network.
Thatcher asserted: "The project will initially develop and implement a repository for obstetric information with access for maternity patients, internal clinicians and affiliated external healthcare providers."
Currently undergoing testing in Mater's Brisbane facility, the platform handles an average of 500 document management queries every day and has been integrated with Medicare resources.
